MoodBoard

Image
For this project, I imagined myself as a set designer and made four mood boards for different locations. I chose images that highlighted things like lighting, props, costumes, and color to create the mood I wanted. My goal was for the audience to make certain assumptions about the characters, like their personality or status, based on the details I included. Each location was designed to spark a reaction, whether that was comfort, curiosity, or tension. When constructing this image, I chose a dark, misty forest with twisted trees and a narrow path for the location/set to suggest mystery, danger, and the unknown. I added props like a lantern and scattered branches to create an unsettling feeling, while a hooded figure (actor) was included to hint at secrecy or hidden intentions. The costumes are dark and simple, keeping the focus on the eerie setting. With cool-toned lighting and shadows, the mood becomes tense and suspenseful, inviting viewers to feel curiosity and unease. Camera Movements

Image
In this blog, I will be exploring different camera movements, showing how each one can change the way we see a scene. I’ll explain what each shot does, how it affects the audience, and why it’s used in filming Tilt: The shot begins at the student’s feet and tilts upward, capturing her hands as she struggles to choose a book. By leaving her face out of frame, the tilt emphasizes her hesitation through gesture and movement rather than expression. Depending on the pace, the shot can serve different purposes. At normal speed, it presents an ordinary moment, while in slow motion, it builds suspense and highlights the difficulty of her choice. Steadicam: This Steadicam shot captures two friends studying in the library. As they continue their work while talking with others around them, the shot creates a natural and realistic atmosphere. Its purpose is to give the audience a glimpse of everyday student life, showing the characters in a familiar and authentic setting. Dolly shot:  This d...

Case Study

Stranger Things Opening Scene (Season 1, Episode 1 – First 2 Minutes on YouTube) https://youtu.be/o-y9BBIX-D8?si=LbRpcil_g2hB1g87 0:00–0:22 -- Establishing Shot:   The opening shows Hawkins National Laboratory at night, surrounded by darkness. The  wide, high angle shot  makes the building seem isolated and cut off from the outside world. This creates a tense, secretive atmosphere and suggests to the audience that something dangerous could be happening inside. 0:23–0:45  -- Tracking Shot A scientist runs down a hallway, and the camera follows him in a smooth tracking shot.  The audience is positioned to sympathize with his fear, while the movement of the camera mirrors his frantic pace, heightening suspense. The  shallow depth of field  keeps the focus tightly on the scientist while the background remains blurred, emphasizing his vulnerability 0:46–1:05  -- Medium Shot  As the scientist rushes into the elevator and presses the buttons, the c...

Classmates Blog Commentary

Image
Commenting on Classmates Blogs In this blog, I'll be sharing my thoughts on some of the camera shots and angles from two of my classmate's blogs.   Classmate#1: Laiba;  https://laibap-09.blogspot.com/2025/08/classmates-commentary-dd.html A close-up shot : This is shot of Laiba's friend Marta. The camera is angled directly at Marta’s face, allowing the expression to take full focus. This type of shot highlights detail and emotion, and in this case, it strongly conveyed a look of shock and speechlessness. The setting of the library added to the atmosphere, giving the image an eerie and suspenseful mood. It made me curious about what Marta had just witnessed to cause such a reaction. Two Shot:  This shot shows two of Laiba's friends looking at each other. The way they were facing gave off a suspicious vibe, almost like they didn’t trust one another or were hiding something. Two...

Camera shots/angles

Image
For this blog, I choose to capture a variety of pictures from different angles and shot types. While we were in the library for class, I experimented with different ways to frame the shots.                                                                                      Here are my shot/angles:   Mid-shot: This is a shot of my friend, Christopher, deep in thought as he decides which book to read next.  Two-shot: This shot shows my friends, Christopher and Jesus, in the midst of a competitive game of rock-paper-scissors.  Establishing shot: This shot shows a clear view of everyone in the library.    Long shot: This shot is taken from the far side of the room, and it shows my friend, Jesus, choosing a book Point Of View Shot: This shot shows the per...
